Fall 2018 Hardlines Strategies
This means you might want to consider making some changes to the way you do performance reviews. Instead of offering those reviews annually, what about doing them quarterly instead? Or, depending on your staff size, weekly meetings (which could also be held in small groups, such as by department) are a good way to motivate, brainstorm with, or ask questions of employees. Make It All About Teamwork Millennials like to work in teams. They want to get to know their
co-workers and find ways to work as a group. They’ll look out for the whole team, and they want everyone to be successful. Try offering team-building activities around the store to help co-workers get to know each other. For example, you can divide your employees up in to two teams to see who can create the best endcap, or you can host an after-hours get-together, which will allow your staff to spend some time together outside of work.
Invite them to bring their families and have dinner together, or try an activity, such as a bowling night. Listening to Their Ideas Millennials like leadership and structure, and they want to know what’s expected of them. They want to hear your ideas, but they want you to listen to theirs, too. Try meeting with your staff—group meetings are helpful, as everyone can play their ideas off of each other—to get their feedback about the different processes and procedures you have in place. Your millennial employees might have some new ideas you haven’t considered before. Your other employees might come up with some new ideas, too! Millennials will be more engaged in the workplace as a whole if they have a time and place to share their ideas and hear from others.
